Khoisan Story Floor Vase

The Khoisan Story Floor Vase is a hand-painted piece by Only Mpofu. Animals, figures and spiral suns appear across an off-white surface with a raised grid, bringing the painted imagery and the vessel's physical texture into the same composition.

Brown marks contrast with the pale body, while the dark neck and gold rim give the upper section a different emphasis. The Khoisan-inspired imagery is not confined to one small panel: the vessel invites attention to the decoration as it continues around the form.

One idea for a home entrance is to place it where more than one side can be seen, with a relatively plain wall nearby. Rather than surrounding it with similarly patterned pieces, consider a simple bench or a restrained artwork elsewhere to balance the composition.

In a lodge or boutique hotel lounge, the vase could serve as an artistic focal point among quieter furnishings. Allowing visual space around the body would let both the raised grid and the painted figures remain legible, giving the piece attention as an individual artwork. Place it close to a wall, leaving the centre of the room open.
